Persepolis 2: The Story of a Return

~by Marjane Satrapi
2005 ALA Best Books for Young Adults
2005 Eisner Award Nominee
2005 Quill Award Nominee

After being sent to Austria by her parents, Marjane is faced with living abroad, alone as a teenager. She faces many choices and decisions growing up, and often does not make good ones. Eventually, she returns to Iran to be with her family and finish her education. But things aren't any easier and are just as dangerous as when she first fled the Islamic revolution.

Persepolis 2 is the sequel to Persepolis.

This book is absolutely amazing and incredibly potent. The illustrations (it's a graphic novel of sorts) are extremely effective. The story is that of the author and her family, as she grew up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Persepolis is highly recommended.

Marjane Satrapi also wrote a sequel, Persepolis 2: The Story of a Return.
